Sustainable But Relaxed Tourism DevelopmentS
From harvested rain water, solar energy powering our site, environmental waste systems to even the beef we serve being organic and grown on our land.
At Two Canoes Island Getaways we believe sustainable and agri-tourism is about building a type and a style of tourism development that contributes to the economic viability of places and people through employment and investment. It contributes to communities’ sense of pride, place attachment and connection with others and it encourages sustainable stewardship over the environmental and natural resources that contribute to the tourist experience.
"We will strive to respect Vanuatu culture and customary practices and harness the positive aspects of traditional ways in achieving our environmental sustainability.
Like our guests, we enjoy our island life and environment as it is our home. We foster a strong environmental ethic to underpin our operations, making us stewards of our natural surroundings as a basis for our commitment to constant improvement in environmental conditions.
We strive to employ and develop the skills of Ni-Vanuatu people before we employ non Vanuatu workers. We also maximise our efforts to recruit from the nearest surrounding islands and villages.
We enhance the principle of waste prevention by purchasing ‘greener products’. We are committed to buying fresh local produce from the land and the sea from nearby Ni-Vanuatu families to again minimise the impact that transportation has on our carbon footprint".
Two Canoes was created by Mark Provost who has used tourism to create opportunity for locals living in remote regions for over 15 years. Since creating Australia's first exclusive Aboriginal Resort in the Simpsons Desert in 2004 (New York Times), Mark has developed several start-up businesses in the South Pacific. He resides in Vanuatu and works between both properties and has an office in Sydney where he loves spending time with his 3 children, close friends and family.
"Our guests are drawn to our amazing properties as they cannot be replicated due to their unique natural settings. We provide our guests with the experience of true natural and cultural surroundings with a high level of privacy and tranquility. We know our targeted guests have a preference for locations that are ‘un-touched’, ‘un-explored’ and 'un-pretentious'.

Q. Who is Two Canoes Island Getaway products designed for? Two Canoes has been designed for independent-minded travellers looking for laid-back places to stay in Vanuatu. Product development for me is all about authenticity. Tourism products are getting slightly homogenous, so I've built places that are personal, environmental, socially and culturally responsible in untouched regions of Efate and Espiritu Santo.
Q. Tourism trends? Small bespoke products where owner/operators are passionate about what they do are taking market share from larger resort operators. Social media is giving travellers more confidence to travel further and plan holidays away from the typical holiday destinations and accommodation options.
